Shift At Midnight All Endings Guide

Shift At Midnight has three Story Mode endings: True Ending, Grave Decision, and Empty Home. Which one you get is decided by two conditions - whether you call Sheriff Clyde after Shift 12, and whether you have $250 in personal funds after completing Shift 13.

Story Mode lasts 13 shifts. Your personal balance (not the store balance) decides whether you can pay for your pet's surgery yourself.

The 3 Endings

EndingHow to UnlockResult
True EndingDo not call Clyde + finish Shift 13 with at least $250Clyde and your pet survive
Grave DecisionCall Clyde after Shift 12Your pet survives, but Clyde dies
Empty HomeDo not call Clyde + finish Shift 13 with less than $250Clyde survives, but your pet dies

What Determines Your Ending

The ending is controlled by your personal funds, not the store balance used for weapons, ammunition, stock, traps and upgrades.

The important events happen in this order: the veterinarian announces your pet needs surgery after Shift 10; the surgery costs $250 and must be paid within three days; you complete Shifts 11 and 12 while building your personal balance; after Shift 12 you choose whether to call Clyde; you complete Shift 13; the final shift payout is added to your personal funds; the veterinarian checks whether you can afford the surgery.

You do not need the full $250 when the Clyde decision appears.

How to Get the True Ending

The True Ending is the best outcome - both Sheriff Clyde and your pet survive. It also unlocks the True Ending achievement (worth 200 Gamerscore on Xbox).

Refuse the Clyde offer and pay for the surgery using your own personal funds. You will be followed by a faceless figure called the Dentist, and Clyde will help kill it, marking the ending sequence.

  • Pay the required medicine bills earlier in Story Mode.
  • Start saving personal funds once the $250 surgery is announced.
  • Complete Shifts 11 and 12 with as few income penalties as possible.
  • After Shift 12, choose Don't Call Clyde.
  • Complete Shift 13, then finish with at least $250 in personal funds.
  • Pay the veterinarian for the surgery.

How to Save $250 for the True Ending

Your personal earnings include a $10 wage for completing a shift and about 10% of the store revenue earned after meeting the quota. Store purchases do not use this personal balance, so keep buying survival gear.

Serve customers quickly and keep the checkout clear, keep shelves stocked, complete the store quota, verify customers before shooting (killing real humans is a big penalty), complete Store Manager tasks, collect tokens before each shift and use the prize wheel, throw live rats into the dumpster for $3, clean stains and trash when traffic is quiet.

Grave Decision and Empty Home

Grave Decision guarantees your pet gets surgery but sacrifices Clyde. Choose Call Clyde after Shift 12, complete Shift 13, and your pet survives while Clyde dies during the final events.

Empty Home saves Clyde but you cannot afford the surgery. Choose Don't Call Clyde and finish with less than $250 - your pet dies, but Clyde remains alive.
